Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - Suckler Cow Quota.

Michael Creed

Question:

207 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the number of suckler cow units available for distribution from the national reserve; the number of applications received under each category; and when the reserve will be allocated. [3055/00]

It is estimated that there will be 10,000 suckler cow premium rights available for distribution from the year 2000 national reserve. It is not possible to give a more accurate figure at this stage, as the amount of quota available depends on the number of quota rights that will be returned to the national reserve because of non-use in 1999. All applicants for reserve quota will be notified of the result of their applications by the end of February.

A total of 7,204 farmers have applied for reserve quota, and the categories they have applied under are: category A, 432; category B, 47; category C, 2148; category D, 4572.
