Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

235 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reason the Kerry Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was refused Leader II funding by his Department in spite of the fact that a grant of £30,000 was approved by the local Leader board, Tuatha Chiarraí, and a similar project was grant aided in Liscarrol, County Cork, under the Leader II Programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3531/00]

There are certain limitations on the form and type of aid that can be accommodated under the Leader programme. The project as proposed related to existing activity and accordingly was not eligible for Leader funding.

The project funded at Liscarrol, County Cork, related to the provision of visitors facilities.
