Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Enda Kenny

Question:

321 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received an application from Mayo County Council for an allocation of funding for the Newport road, Castlebar, County Mayo, as part of the EU specific improvement scheme co-financed for 2000; if so, when this application was received; if he has assessed the application; if he will make an allocation available to Mayo County Council in view of the dangerous condition of this road and the increasing amount of traffic; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2986/00]

I have recently announced an allocation of £100,000 under the specific improvement grants scheme to Mayo County Council for the Newport road project this year. In all, Mayo County Council has received an allocation of £11,931,000 for non national roads for the present year, an increase of 8 per cent on the 1999 allocation.
