Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

358 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a person (details supplied) in County Wexford whose only income is a contributory old age pension of £44.50 per week was refused a non-contributory pension; if he has satisfied himself that this application has been dealt with equitably by his Department; if he will make inquiries as to when this appeal will be determined; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3412/00]

The person's application for old age non-contributory pension was disallowed by a deciding officer on the basis that he had failed to disclose his means.

The person concerned appealed the decision to the Social Welfare Appeals Office. The appeals officer has examined the appeal and considers that an oral hearing is necessary. This will be arranged as soon as possible.
