Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - Voluntary Schools Funding.

Richard Bruton

Question:

428 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department provides different levels of financial support to different categories of voluntary secondary schools; and, if so, the basis for these differences. [3231/00]

As the Deputy will be aware there are long-standing arrangements in place under which different categories of voluntary secondary schools are funded. These different funding mechanisms have their origins in the fact that certain schools are not within the free education scheme and that the block grant mechanism is in place to meet the particular needs of Protestant schools.
