Question:

433 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give details of the information provided by schools in their October returns. [3243/00]

At primary level the return includes details of pupils enrolled on 30 September of the year in which the data is submitted. The details include age and gender of the pupils. Data regarding the number and type of teachers in the school is also included. The returns from special schools include details regarding subjects being studied for the junior and leaving certificate.

At second level, October pupil returns provide details of pupils who are in attendance and under regular instruction as at 30 September each year. The following information is also provided: pupils' personal details including name, address, date and country of birth, gender; State examinations entry details where appropriate; programme followed; subjects studied and levels; information on subject exemptions held by pupils; school details; principal's name; confirmation if school has a board of management; information concerning patron and trustees and details of school leavers during the previous year.
