Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Performance Tables.

Monica Barnes

Question:

79 Mrs. Barnes asked the Minister for Education and Science his views on whether parents and prospective parents of a school should have a right to information regarding the exam performance of relevant schools. [3145/00]

I intend to maintain the policy provided for in the Education Act, 1998, which permits me to refuse access to any information which would enable the compilation of information in relation to the comparative performance of schools based exclusively on the examinations results of students.

As the Deputy is probably aware a legal challenge has been initiated against the decision of the Information Commissioner requiring release of such material in respect of the 1998 examinations and I do not therefore propose to comment further on the issues involved.
