131 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if his Department has received a request for funding from the North West Fisheries Board to purchase Lough Doon at Fivemilebourne, County Leitrim. [3678/00]
My Department has received a proposal from the North Western Regional Fisheries Board for the purchase of Lough Doon, County Leitrim. While existing policy does not provide for the acquisition as a general rule by the State of fisheries, proposals for the purchase by the State of strategic sports fisheries have been taken forward under the Tourism Angling Measure 1994 – 1999, subject to full compliance with the set guidelines for the acquisition of fisheries. The proposal by the North Western Regional Fisheries Board is being assessed in that context.
