Vol. 514 No. 1

Written Answers. - Archaeological Sites.

John McGuinness

Question:

199 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if Dunmore Caves and Kells Priory, County Kilkenny, will be open and in full use during the 2000 tourist season; if these sites will be made safe as soon as possible; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3614/00]

Dunmore Cave will be closed until further notice to allow for works on the extension and renovation of the visitor centre to be carried out.

Works are in progress at Kells Priory. These works which involve conservation of the walls will have the effect of remedying any dangerous masonry. While the site will be open to the public during the tourist season, some areas, notably the tower, will be closed off while work is in progress.
