Vol. 514 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

223 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will review the requirement that a club or association receiving a national lottery grant must pay a contribution of £500 towards its costs in preparation of the deed of trust; if he will allocate additional lottery funding for this purpose; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3653/00]

Under the sports capital programme it is necessary only in the case of clubs-organisations in receipt of grants in excess of £39,000 to execute a deed of trust, and to make a contribution of £500 towards the cost of preparing the deed. A deed of trust provides for a refund of the grant in the event of the facility not continuing to be used for the purpose for which the grant was allocated. In view of the size of grant in question, this is a reasonable requirement and I do not propose to allocate additional lottery funding over and above grant allocations to clubs-organisations for this purpose.
