Vol. 514 No. 1

Written Answers. - Corporate Law Enforcement Office.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

94 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment when the Office of Corporate Law Enforcement will be established and operational; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3494/00]

New legislation will be required before the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement can be established. The drafting of the required legislation is well under way and I hope to publish a Bill before Easter.

In anticipation of the passing of the necessary legislation, preparations are being made for the recruitment of the necessary staff, including the position of director, and we are still on course to have the office in place by the middle of this year.

I look forward to the establishment of the Office of Director of Corporate Enforcement and expect it to prove an effective weapon in the fight against corporate crime.
