Vol. 514 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Code.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

134 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Finance the tax changes, if any, he proposes in the horticultural industry which may have a corresponding value with any taxation changes that will be made in agriculture; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4545/00]

There are no proposals under consideration to introduce changes in the tax treatment of the horticulture industry. Horticulture has traditionally been treated differently from farming in the tax legislation. As the Deputy is no doubt aware, the horticulture sector has, in common with many other sectors, benefited from the overall reduction in income tax and corporation tax rates in the economy over recent years.
