Question:

196 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give details in relation to the reduction from eight to seven teachers for the appointment of administrative principals to national schools; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4544/00]

Administrative principals are currently appointed to primary schools with eight or more mainstream class teachers. Administrative principals will be appointed to all schools with seven mainstream class teachers from the 1 September 2000.

Details regarding the implementation of the proposal and its impact on the staffing schedule are currently being discussed with the partners in education.
