Vol. 514 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

John Perry

Question:

314 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there is no remedial teaching facility at Ballinode technical college, County Sligo; if this vital service will be put in place in view of the fact there are pupils who are very dependant on it and their remedial books had to be returned; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5141/00]

In the vocational sector, teaching resources are generally allocated on an overall VEC scheme basis. It is a matter for the chief executive officer, with the agreement of the committee, to allocate staff to individual schools in the scheme from within the approved allocation.

I understand that the appropriate allocation in respect of remedial has been made to the school referred to by the Deputy.
