Vol. 515 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tax Allowances.

Ivan Yates

Question:

175 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Finance if a person (details supplied) in County Wexford is being correctly deducted PAYE; and if his entire income tax situation in relation to allowances and deductions will be reviewed and clarified. [6037/00]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that, according to the information available to the inspector of taxes, the taxpayer is in receipt of the tax free allowances to which he is entitled and tax is being correctly deducted under the PAYE system.

A certificate of tax-free allowances issued to the taxpayer in November 1999. The certificate was issued on a week one basis, that is, effective from the date of issue only as, at the time, the inspector of taxes did not have details of the taxpayer's employment history from 6 April 1999. The inspector has now established that the tax payer had been in receipt of unemployment assistance and a cumulative certificate will issue to the taxpayer shortly. Any refund due to the taxpayer will be made by the taxpayer's employer on operation of the certificate of tax free allowances.
