Vol. 515 No. 3

Written Answers. - Environmental Policy.

Austin Deasy

Question:

227 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if there is a problem which prohibits local authorities from co-operating with FÁS and some other State agencies to clean up and maintain old graveyards, the environs of ancient monuments and access to these and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6055/00]

Local authorities, acting in their capacity as burial boards, are responsible for the management and maintenance of burial grounds provided by them. I am not aware of any problems which might prevent local authorities from co-operating with FÁS or other State agencies, in relation to the works referred to in the Deputy's question.
