Vol. 515 No. 3

Written Answers. - Teaching Qualifications.

Richard Bruton

Question:

325 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 592 of 2 November 1999, the progress, if any, made regarding the issue of appropriate salaries for well qualified teachers who have not been given proper recognition for their skill as in the case of persons (details supplied). [5944/00]

My officials have written to the principal of the school referred to by the Deputy and outlined the position with regard to one of the people referred to by him. In that particular case, as the person does not possess a primary or secondary teaching qualification, she is not entitled to the trained rate of salary.

The situation regarding the second person referred to by the Deputy has not yet been clarified and a letter has recently issued to that person asking her to submit details of her teaching qualifications to my Department. On receipt of such documentation my officials will give the matter immediate consideration.
