Question:

345 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 145 of 8 February 2000, the number of remand and detention places to be provided in each of the locations included in his Department's development plans to meet the obligations which will arise under the Children Bill, 1999. [6234/00]

The development plan envisages an overall increase of 30 places in the level of provision currently available for young offenders.

Of these places, 24 will be for young male offenders and will be located at the Oberstown campus at Lusk, County Dublin. The remaining six places will be for young female offenders and will be located at Oberstown Girls Centre.
