Question:

56 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of cars tested to date under the national car inspection test; the number of vehicles which failed the test; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5980/00]

The national car test commenced operation on 4 January 2000. Up to and including 23 February 2000, a total of 42,208 cars had undergone the initial test. Of this total, 23,652 cars, equivalent to 56%, failed the test.
