Vol. 515 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Car Test.

Jim Higgins

Question:

82 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will exempt disabled car owners from the £35 national car test fee; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5777/00]

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 80, 114 and 571 of 26 January 2000. Significant reliefs are available to persons with disabilities in relation to VAT and VRT on car purchase, motor tax and fuel tax. The arrangements for the national car test, which is operating under a commercial contract, do not provide for any further relief in this regard nor has such relief been sought by any representative organisation for persons with disabilities.
