91 Ms McManus asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the Government's position on the implementation of EU Directive 98/44 regarding biotechnological inventions; the plans, if any, she has to introduce and enact legislation in advance of 30 July 2000 and if she will make a statement on the matter. It is proposed to implement the EU Directive on the Legal Protection of Biotechnological Inventions by means of a statutory instrument, under section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972, by the deadline of 30 July 2000 as prescribed in article 15 of the directive.
