Written Answers. - Live Register.

Austin Deasy

Question:

12 Mr. Deasy asked the Taoiseach the number of people signing on the live register as unemployed, for Waterford city, Dungarvan and Lismore for the latest period available; and the way in which these figures compare percentage wise with the national average. [6198/00]

At the end of January 2000 there were 5,364 persons signing on the live register at the Waterford city social welfare office and 897 in Dungarvan.

Claims for the Lismore area were transferred to the Waterford local office in November 1991 on the closure of that office. The Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs has indi cated that there were 246 claimants from the Lismore area included in the Waterford office total for January.
The total live register figure for the State in January 2000 was 176, 162. In total, registrants at the Waterford city and Dungarvan offices represented 3.6% of the national total.
