Vol. 515 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Disciplinary Proceedings.

Billy Timmins

Question:

97 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 215 of 9 February 2000, the Garda authorities have any record of any settlements or awards, not resulting from legal actions, following internal disciplinary hearings in each of the years from 1987 to 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6506/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there is currently no arrangement in place that would enable members who are the subject of disciplinary inquiries, to claim compensation on the conclusion of such proceedings. They are not aware of any such payments being made on this basis during the period specified.

Members who have been placed on suspension allowance and who are subsequently reinstated are paid arrears of pay and allowances as appropriate.
