Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Recruitment.

Ivor Callely

Question:

249 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to Parliamentary Question No. 327 of 23 November 1999, the progress, if any, made on the review of height requirement for applicants for the Garda Síochána; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6705/00]

All aspects of the height requirement for entry to An Garda Síochána are being carefully considered in the context of the current review. These height requirements, which are historical, are prescribed by regulation. The matter is being pursued but I am not in a position, at this stage to indicate when it will be completed. Any proposals I may have in this regard will be submitted for consideration by the Government in due course.
