Austin Currie

Question:

242 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to change the law relating to private lotteries; if so, the date in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6631/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 57 and 242 together.

The report of the interdepartmental group which I established last year to undertake the review of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1956 is almost complete and I expect to receive it in the near future. In accordance with its terms of reference, the review group has completed a thorough review of the Act including the provisions relating to private lotteries. As the Deputy will appreciate, it will not be possible for me to comment on any aspect until I have received the report and recommendations.
