Vol. 516 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Refund.

Liam Aylward

Question:

71 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange a tax refund to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who is unemployed and whose income has reduced significantly. [7199/00]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the inspector of taxes has made inquiries about the taxpayer's current circumstances and has learned that he is not unemployed but is currently on sick leave from his employment and is still being paid by his employer.

I am further informed that the inspector's inquiries have also revealed that the taxpayer's employer has not been operating the PAYE system correctly on the taxpayer's income. The inspector has informed the taxpayer's employer of the appropriate tax-free allowances and tax rate which should apply to the taxpayer's income. Any refund of income tax due to the taxpayer will be made by his employer.
