Written Answers. - Afforestation Programme.
The total area of land under forestry at the end of 1999 was approximately 634,000 hectares. The rate of planting this year will depend on how quickly the forestry sector responds to the recently announced major increases in grant and premia rates. It is likely, however, that a further major expansion in the forestry sector of up to 14,000 hectares, or almost 35,000 acres, will take place.
