Vol. 516 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Enda Kenny

Question:

79 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Finance if seven original fireplaces were stolen from the former Ordnance Survey building in the Phoenix Park in 1999; if so, if he will give details of these fireplaces; the details concerning the robbery; the investigations, if any, which have taken place; if they are still ongoing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8447/00]

I regret to confirm that eight original fireplaces were stolen from Mountjoy House, Phoenix Park, Dublin 8, in April 1999. The lock on one of the external doors to the building was forced and it appears that this exit was used to remove the fireplaces from the building.

The fireplaces were the only items missing from the building following the theft.

The matter was reported to the gardaí in Cabra Garda station. It is understood that their investigations into the matter are continuing but that as yet the fireplaces have not been recovered and no charges have been brought in relation to the robbery.
