Vol. 516 No. 5

Written Answers. - Cycling Promotion.

Question:

142 Dr. Upton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the steps, if any, her Department has taken to encourage members of staff to cycle to work; and if she will consider a cycling allowance to promote cycling. [8624/00]

The mode of transport used by employees generally, including staff of my Department, for travelling to and from work is essentially a matter of personal choice. Bicycle parking facilities are available in each of the buildings of the Department. Shower and changing facilities are also provided. The matter of payment of a cycling allowance is a matter for consideration in an overall transport policy context and not something which can be addressed on an individual organisation basis.
