Vol. 516 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

228 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called for an oral hearing to finalise his appeal. [8550/00]

The person concerned was in receipt of unemployment assistance at the weekly rate of £131.30 based on a means assessment of £25.28 per week, derived from income from farming.

In the context of an application for farm assist his means were re-assessed in January 2000 at £148 per week. This figure has since been reduced to £75 per week in the light of further details supplied by him in the course of his appeal.

His appeal against the revised assessment has been considered by an appeals officer who is of the opinion that an oral hearing is necessary. This will be arranged as soon as possible.
