Vol. 516 No. 5

Written Answers. - Cycling Promotion.

Question:

231 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the steps, if any, his Department has taken to encourage members of staff to cycle to work; and if he will consider a cycling allowance to promote cycling. [8633/00]

My Department encourages the use of bicycles for travel to work by providing parking facilities for bicycles at all its main

offices. Travelling expenses are not paid to civil servants in respect of journeys to work, irrespective of the mode of transport, and there are no proposals under consideration for payment of such an allowance.
