Vol. 516 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Stadium.

Austin Currie

Question:

253 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the consultations, if any, which took place with Fingal County Council before or since the decision to build a national stadium at Abbotstown on the effect of increased traffic and other factors detrimental to the quality of life of people living in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8562/00]

I understand that preliminary consultations were held with the Fingal county manager on possible site options for the stadium.

The development company which will be established shortly will be responsible for taking the campus and stadium Ireland project through the design and construction stages and will be undertaking a wide range of consultations, including detailed discussions with Fingal County Council, covering all aspects of the project.

The feasibility study, A Stadium for the New Century, commissioned by the Government includes an economic impact assessment which I would draw to the Deputy's attention. A copy of the study is available in the Oireachtas Library.
