Vol. 516 No. 5

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Michael Ring

Question:

261 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science when assistance will be given to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo who suffers from dyslexia to help his educational development; if the costs incurred in getting him privately assessed will be reimbursed; and if there is a scheme to give financial help to this family in view of their circumstances. [8596/00]

My Department's inspectorate is investigating the precise nature of the special support required by the child in question in order to assist his educational development. As soon as the inspectorate's report is received, a decision will be made on the provision of any necessary support services. My Department does not have funding available to meet the cost of private assessments.
