Vol. 517 No. 1

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Michael Finucane

Question:

161 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason no funding is provided to local authorities for removal of dangerous bends on regional and county roads; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9229/00]

A range of resources is available, at the discretion of local authorities, within the non-national roads programme for the carrying out of works such as referred to in the question.

As an initiative in the present year, some £500,000 has been provided to enable local authorities to carry out low cost safety improvement works at identified black-spots on non-national roads. My Department has recently sought proposals from local authorities in relation to road sites which may be suitable for funding under this scheme.
