Róisín Shortall

Question:

68 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the decision, if any, she has made regarding the future of Aer Rianta; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9074/00]

Ivan Yates

Question:

105 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Public Enterprise when the Government will make a decision on the future or Aer Rianta; the reason for the delay in bringing forward her proposals to Cabinet in this regard; and if she will set out a timetable for determining the future ownership of the company and its subsidiaries. [8713/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 68 and 105 together.

As the Deputies are aware, I submitted the Warburg Dillon Read-AIB report on the strategic options for the future of Aer Rianta to my Cabinet colleagues at the Government meeting on 1 February and made it publicly available. I am continuing to give consideration to the findings and recommendations contained in that report, with a view to formulating specific proposals for consideration by Government.

The issues which I am considering are complex in nature and are of the utmost importance both for the company itself, its employees and most critically, its customers, both the airlines and the travelling public. I trust the Deputies will agree that the matters involved merit very careful con sideration and I do not intend to make any hasty decisions. The Deputies may be assured, however, that I am acutely aware of the desirability of an early decision in relation to the future of Aer Rianta and, in this regard, I would hope to be in a position to submit my proposals to Government shortly.
