Vol. 517 No. 2

Written Answers. - DPP's Decisions.

Paul McGrath

Question:

135 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the person who has the responsibility to inform the original suspect and the injured party of the DPP's decisions in a criminal case where the decision is not to proceed with charges. [9464/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that where the decision of the Director of Public Prosecutions is not to proceed with charges, it is the responsibility of the member of the Garda Síochána in charge of the investigation, or any member nominated on his or her behalf, to inform the original suspect and the injured party.
