Question:

73 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the amount of budget allocated to the Shannon regional fisheries board in 1999; the number of board members elected; the number appointed to the board; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9383/00]

The Shannon regional fisheries board was allocated a total budget £1,392,000 in 1999.

Elections to the new regional fisheries boards took place on 20 March. In the case of the Shannon regional fishery board the elections were in respect of 14 places representing the various fisheries interests. A further eight members representing other relevant interests as well as a staff nominee will be appointed by me shortly following completion of the nomination process currently under way.
