Vol. 517 No. 2

Written Answers. - Rural Environment Protection Scheme.

Willie Penrose

Question:

79 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when an appeal by a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath against a decision to impose a 100% fine in respect of his REP scheme application will be finalised in view of the fact the work he had to undertake, although not in strict compliance with his REP scheme plan, was motivated by a desire to ensure strict compliance with the animal disease prevention regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9373/00]

An appeal against a 100% penalty imposed on a REPS payment was submitted to my Department on behalf of the person named on 21 January 2000. The appeal has been forwarded to the Department's regional office for investigation and examination where it is being dealt with along with other priorities. When this report is received, the entire matter will be fully considered by my Department's REPS Appeals Committee. The person named will be informed directly of the outcome.
