Vol. 517 No. 2

Written Answers. - Housing Costs.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

96 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance if he has carried out any assessment of the impact of housing costs on recent inflation levels; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9429/00]

In the 12 months to February 2000 the housing costs component of the consumer price index – CPI – reduced the index by 0.24%. This was due mainly to falls in mortgage interest rates over the last eighteen months. In the CPI housing costs include mortgage interest costs, rents, local authority charges, house insurance and repairs and decorations.
