Vol. 517 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

271 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to Parliamentary Question No. 174 of 29 March 2000, the number and grade of staff members in Land Registry, Dublin, who have expressed an interest in transferring to Land Registry, Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9985/00]

Staff who express a wish to transfer usually do so in expectation that their wishes in that regard will remain in confidence between them and their respective personnel officers. For that reason, I do not propose to depart from the normal practice of not disclosing the precise numbers and grades of those expressing an interest in transferring, lest those who have expressed such a wish be identified.

However, the total number of persons who have currently or in the recent past expressed an interest in transferring to Waterford is fewer than ten.

Question:

272 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number and grade of staff at Land Registry, Waterford, who are eligible for promotion within the Waterford office or to transfer to Land Registry, Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9986/00]

In theory all staff are eligible for promotion subject to considerations such as the conditions relating to the specific job requirements, e.g., legal qualifications, given experience or length of service, etc. These factors are considered at the date of the competition in respect of officers making an application for promotion.

Staff in Waterford can only be accommodated with a move to Dublin in accordance with the exigencies of providing a service in both locations. I should add that staff who went to Waterford on promotion for decentralisation were required to remain a minimum of three years in Waterford.
