96 Mr. Roche asked the Minister for Health and Children the name, the year of establishment, the basis under statute, statutory instrument or otherwise of commercial and non-commercial State-sponsored bodies under the aegis of his Department; the fees paid to the chairman and ordinary directors of these bodies; and when these fees were last agreed. Following is the list of boards under the aegis of the Department of Health and Children with details of their year of establishment and their statutory basis.

Remuneration paid to Members of Boards
Remuneration paid to members of boards under the aegis of the Department of Health and Children is determined according to the relevant Act or Statutory Instrument establishing each board. The level of remuneration of board members under the aegis of this Department is as follows:
Adoption Board: £2,000 per annum is paid to each ordinary member of the Board. The full-time chairperson of the Adoption Board is paid a salary equivalent to a District Justice, currently £59,773, with an additional allowance of £577. Agreed April 2000.
Blood Transfusion Service Board: £4,000 per annum is paid to the chairperson of the board. Agreed June 1999.
Food Safety Authority of Ireland: £4,000 per annum is paid to the chairperson of the authority. Other members are paid £2,500 per annum. Agreed January 1998.
Irish Medicines Board: £15,377 per annum is paid to the chairperson of the board. Agreed April 2000.
Voluntary Health Insurance Board: £6,000 per annum is paid to the chairperson of the board. Other members are paid £4,000 per annum. Agreed 1992.
National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery: The first chairman of the council is an executive chairman and is paid £15,000 per annum. Agreed December 1999.
