Question:156 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Defence the present position on Collins Barracks; the number of military personnel in this barracks; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10620/00]

It is not the policy to disclose the number of military personnel located at any particular military post or barracks.
Most of the property at Collins Barracks, Dublin, has been handed over to the Office of Public Works and the National Museum. Approximately one quarter of Collins Barracks is still occupied by military personnel, who are awaiting the completion of alternative accommodation at Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin. Tenders have been invited for the construction of a new building there to accommodate the personnel concerned. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-summer 2001. The remainder of Collins Barracks will then be handed over to the Office of Public Works.
