Vol. 517 No. 6

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Seán Ryan

Question:

306 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if an application has been received from Fingal County Council for sanction to proceed with the Rolestown sewage scheme; and if sanction for the scheme will be forthcoming. [10791/00]

A preliminary report was approved for this scheme in 1987 but the local authority did not proceed further with the planning of the scheme at the time. Subsequently, in 1998, the authority proposed the scheme for inclusion in the serviced land initiative. The proposal was not approved as it was considered to be uneconomic due to the high unit costs.

Fingal County Council has not included the proposal in their list of schemes submitted in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessment of needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments.
