Vol. 517 No. 6

Written Answers. - Computer Services.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

379 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the pilot projects involving new technology in Land Registry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10958/00]

While there are no actual pilot projects in place at present, the following initiatives involving new technology are currently in the course of implementation: the integrated title registration information system – ITRIS – is a state-of-the-art computer system, designed to improve the speed and quality of the service which the Land Registry provides to its customers. Currently, all folios in the Dublin region and all new folios opened since 1988 in counties Galway, Clare, Roscommon, Mayo and Sligo are available electronically. All new applications in these counties are being processed on the ITRIS system. It is proposed to extend ITRIS to counties Kildare and Wicklow in July-August of this year and to subsequently extend the system throughout the entire country on a phased basis.

Electronic Access Service – EAS – allows the public to access information held by the Land Registry over the Internet. This service enables business to be conducted ‘online' which would previously have required a visit in person to the Land Registry offices. It is available via the World Wide Web at www.landregistry.ie. The service is currently available in respect of counties Dublin, Galway, Clare, Roscommon, Mayo and Sligo and will be extended in conjunction with the new ITRIS system on a county by county basis.
