Vol. 518 No. 2

Written Answers. - Cross-Border Police Operations.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

27 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the steps he will take to facilitate a more effective arrangement of cross Border police co-operation between the Garda Síochána and the RUC. [11126/00]

As the Deputy will be aware, the Patten report on policing in Northern Ireland acknowledged that there was already a very high level of co-operation between An Garda Síochána and the RUC. That report set out a number of recommendations for improved co-operation between the police service of Northern Ireland and the Garda. It is intended that implementation of these recommendations will be pursued under the auspices of the British-Irish Intergovernmental Conference.
