Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Jim Higgins

Question:

242 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the Garda stations in County Mayo which do not currently have sergeants. [11584/00]

The detailed allocation of Garda personnel to an individual area is a matter for the Garda authorities who have informed me that the following Garda stations in Mayo have no sergeants allocated to them: Castlebar District: Ballyglass, Ballyvary, Glenisland, Tourmakeady, Ballina District: Ballycastle, Bonniconlon, Lahardane, Belmullet District: Blacksod, Ballycroy, Bellacorrick, Glenmoy, Claremorris District: Ballindine, Cong, Hollymount, Kilmaine, Swinford District: Kilkelly, Westport District: Mulranny, Keel, Newport.

I have asked the Garda authorities to also let me know the number of stations in Mayo that currently have a vacancy for a sergeant and I will communicate further with the Deputy when this information is available.

The allocation of personnel to individual areas is reviewed by the Garda authorities on an ongoing basis and when additional personnel next become available the needs of the Mayo division will be fully considered in the overall context of the needs of other Garda divisions throughout the country.
