Vol. 518 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

223 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the Garda numbers in each of the Garda divisions; the provisional crime statistics for 1999 for the Garda divisions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11884/00]

While I can inform the Deputy that the total number of crimes recorded in 1999, 81,274 was approximately 5% less than in 1998, 85,604, I am unable to provide figures on a divisional basis for 1999 yet as the figures are provisional and, as such, may be subject to change. The annual report of the Garda Síochána will, however, contain the final figures in respect of 1999 when it is published later in the year.
