Vol. 518 No. 5

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

199 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the capital projects financed by his Department which have commenced or will commence construction in the Waterford constituency during 2000; the amount involved in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12121/00]

Grants totalling £236,000 were allocated in 1999 to the following ten projects in Waterford under the sports capital programme operated by my Department: Ballyduff Community Council, £34,000; Ballygunner GAA Club, £40,000; Cappoquin Rowing Club, £20,000; Clashmore-Kinsalebeg GAA Club, £26,000; Mount Sion GAA Club, £40,000; Cunnigar Pitch an Putt Club, £9,000; Dungarvan Brass Band, £5,000; Dunhill GAA Club, £40,000; Kilbarry Community Centre, £2,000 and St. Paul's Amateur Football Club, £20,000.

Work by promoters has already commenced, or is planned to commence on these projects in 2000.
The sports capital programme for 2000 was advertised in early December 1999 with a closing date of 11 February for the receipt of completed applications. In excess of 1,600 applications were received and these are being processed at present.
All of the applications received will be evaluated against the programmes assessment criteria, which were outlined in the guidelines which accompanied the application form. Pending completion of the assessment I am not in a position to state which projects in Waterford will be funded under the 2000 round of grant allocations.
