Vol. 518 No. 5

Written Answers. - FÁS Training Programmes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

83 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if adequate FÁS training places exist in the various regions throughout the country; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12202/00]

FÁS provides a range of training opportunities throughout the country at its network of training centres and through contracted external training and community-based training programmes.

The number and location of training places in each of FÁS's ten regions is kept under constant review by FÁS in order to meet the changing needs and requirements of the region.

In general, I am satisfied that the number of FÁS training places throughout the country is adequate. However, as I have indicated in response to a number of recent questions, there is an excess demand for phase 2 apprenticeship training places with FÁS. I have outlined, in previous replies, the range of measures being taken to address this unprecedented demand.
