Vol. 518 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

Nora Owen

Question:

118 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Finance the premises, if any, purchased or rented in the Fingal area of Dublin for the housing of asylum seekers; and if there are any proposals to place mobile homes or other temporary dwellings in any location in Fingal. [12126/00]

The Office of Public Works is currently engaged in a nationwide programme of property acquisition on behalf of the Department of Justice Equality and Law Reform as part of the initiative to provide accommodation for asylum seekers.

The Office of Public Works has not to date purchased or leased any property in the Fingal area of Dublin for this purpose. Similarly, there are no proposals currently to locate mobile homes or other temporary dwellings in Fingal. However, if proposals are made to the Office of Public Works in this or any other area, they will be fully considered, having regard always to the fact that the final selection of locations for asylum seeker accommodation centres is ultimately a matter for the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform.

It should also be noted that the above infor mation relates only to Office of Public Works remit. It does not include any properties where arrangements may have been made separately by the Department or other State agencies.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

119 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Finance the capital projects financed by his Department which have commenced or will commence construction in the Waterford constituency during 2000; the amount involved in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12127/00]

Brian O'Shea

Question:

120 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Finance the new services or extension to existing services which have commenced or will commence in the Waterford constituency during 2000; the amount involved in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12128/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 119 and 120 together.

The Department of Finance will not be directly involved in construction or the provision of services in the Waterford constituency during 2000.

However, I understand that the Office of Public Works will undertake the following construction projects: recladding of Government offices, The Glen, £4.5 million; provision of new Garda station at Kilmacthomas, £0.25 million; fit-out of No. 108 The Quay, £0.025 million; renovations to Dungarvan Garda station, £0.035 million; renovations to Tallow Garda station, £0.077 million; investigation of flooding problems and development of flood relief proposals for the John's River, to relieve flooding in the Poleberry and Tramore Road areas of the city £0.65 million. The Office of Public Works will also undertake a feasibility study for the development of the venue building which is located in the North Quays area of Waterford city at a cost of £1 million.
